Last weekend Arsenal silenced their critics to earn a 2-1 victory over Champions Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. Samir Nasri struck twice to give manager Arsene Wenger’s belief that they are still serious Premier League contenders.
Nasri’s first came on the 22nd minute via a deflected shot, before he cooly finished from a defence splitting Fabregas pass early in the second half.
In the week a young Arsenal side, with the likes of Carlos Vela and Aaron Ramsey dismantled a near full strength Wigan Athletic 3-0 in the league cup.
In team news for Arsenal, striker Emmanuel Adebayor and goalkeeper Manuel Almunia are expected to recover from injury to at least make the bench. But they will be without the suspended Robin Van Persie and the injured Emmanuel Eboue
Last Sunday Aston Villa suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Middlesbrough, when many were expecting Martin O’Neil’s side to gain all three points.
Steve Sidwell had equalised for villa after Tuncay had given Boro the lead, but it was his error with just two minutes left on the clock which gifted Tuncay his second and winning goal.
In team news for Aston Villa, they are expected to be without influential striker John Carew, so James Milner is again expected to partner Gabriel Agbonlahor. Midfielder Stilliyan Petrov and defender Luke Young could return from injuries.
In this corresponding fixture last season, A stoppage time equaliser by Bendtner earned the Gunners a 1-1 draw after an own goal by Senderos had given Aston Villa a first half lead.
