Birmingham City need a better result than Fulham and Reading if they’re going to avoid being relegated.

Last weekend Birmingham were beaten by Fulham which has made their chances of staying up in the league difficult, but not impossible.

In the build up to the game, Birmingham manager Alex McLeish says it would have been helpful to have made more signings in the transfer window.

“I said in January we needed some more experience,” said McLeish. “We only managed to get three players in. I thought we needed three or four more”. He also revealed that poor home form has lead to the club being in this situation.

In team news for Birmingham City, Striker James McFadden and defender Liam Ridgewell are doubts.

Last Saturday Blackburn recorded an impressive 1-0 win at Portsmouth. Roque Santa Cruz grabbed the winner with a low shot after a neat one-two with strike partner Jason Roberts.

In team news for Blackburn Rovers, Striker Benni McCarthy could return for Blackburn after missing the last two matches with a hamstring injury.

Christopher Samba has suffered no recurrence of a previous thigh problem and should continue in defence.
