Last Sunday Birmingham City were humiliated by their bitter rivals in a heavy 5-1 defeat at Villa Park which kept them in relegation trouble.

In a day to forget for Birmingham City, Mikael Forsell scored a consolation goal to make the game 4-1, before Villa scored a fifth.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish was stunned by the defeat but believes his side can still avoid relegation. The Scot believes his side can shake off the embarrassment of the thrashing and he vowed they would fight until the very end to stay in the top flight.

The Blues are 18th in the Premier League, a point behind Reading and Bolton, who are in the safety zone.

Last Saturday goals from Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch saw Liverpool earn three more points, this time at the expense of Fulham.

Pennant gave the Reds the lead against the run of play when he was put through by Lucas Leiva and he took Kasey Keller by surprise with a powerful early shot.

He then turned provider to set up Crouch to score with a low drive.

That victory put the eight points clear of Everton who are in fifth place with just three games remaining, Liverpool’s place in next seasons Champions League is all but secured.

In the reverse fixture earlier this season the sides played out a dull 0-0 draw, Birmingham City would be happy if they could earn another point.
