Last Sunday a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink double against Motherwell helped reignite Celtic’s title aspirations. Stephen McManus put Celtic in front after 16 minutes when he bundled the ball into the net from close range. After Motherwell had drawn level, Scott McDonald and Vennegoor of Hesselink gave Celtic a comfortable lead at the break before the Dutch striker added a fourth on 56 minutes.

In team news for Celtic, Scott Brown is still serving his three-match suspension, Barry Robson who took his place against Motherwell is expected to keep his place in the team as is Paul Hartley.

Rangers enjoyed a weekend away from league action due to their participation in the Scottish Cup. They booked their place in the Semi Finals with a win over Partick Thistle. The game was all over in the first half, Nacho Novo slid in to fire the visitors ahead and Chris Burke added a close range header before half time.

In team news Stevie Smith says he hopes to feature in the match after spending nearly 16 months on the sidelines. Smith played in the victory over Partick Thistle, which was his first since suffering with a pelvic problem in December 2006.

Rangers are four points ahead of their bitter rivals Celtic and also have two games more to play than them.
