In their last match Theo Walcott hit a stunning hat-trick as England thrashed Croatia.
The 19-year-old got the nod to start ahead of David Beckham and he drilled England ahead, before Croatia were reduced to ten men when Robert Kovac was sent off for an elbow on Joe Cole.
Walcott grabbed a carbon-copy second after Wayne Rooney slotted in a brilliant third, before Walcott collected Rooney’s pass and rolled in his final goal of the goal.
It was a magnificent performance and more than coach Fabio Capello can have dreamed of, but they have to do it all over again in this game.
They will have to do it without captain John Terry, who is ruled out with a back injury. This will mean that Rio Ferdinand will wear the captains armband for the game.
In John Terry’s place will come either Joleon Lescott or Matthew Upson.
Also in his news conference, manager Capello attempted to justify his exclusion of Michael Owen - who has a record of 40 goals in 89 international appearances - in favour of Portsmouth’s forward pairing of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.
Joe Cole will miss the game with a foot injury, but there are likely to be places in midfield for both Lampard and Gerrard, along with Gareth Barry, Theo Walcott, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney.
In a slightly worrying comment, England boss Fabio Capello says he knows very little about World Cup qualifying opponents Kazakhstan because of their recent managerial change.
Having earned Ten points in their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, which included a 2-1 victory against Serbia, the progress was undone by qualifying defeats against Croatia and Ukraine.
Kazakhstan sacked coach Arno Pijpers and caretaker boss Bernd Storck has dropped 17 players from the previous squad.
