England manager Fabio Capello will name another stop-gap captain before making a permanent choice. The choice is believed to be between Chelsea’s John Terry or Rio Ferdinand, with Ferdinand being the favorite for the role on a full time basis.

David James is expected to start the game in goal, while the right back position is said to be up for grabs, with Ashley Cole playing at left back.

Surprisingly there was no place in the squad for Michael Carrick, who has excelled during the seasons end. Blackburn winger David Bentley is relishing the challenge of trying to oust David Beckham on England’s right flank.
Bentley, 23, hopes to be involved against the US at Wembley and to make the trip to play Trinidad & Tobago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on 1 June.

Up front Wayne Rooney is expected to start the game, but must be feeling the pressure to finally begin to deliver at this level.

Meanwhile USA coach Bob Bradley has named eight England-based players for the match.

Fulham trio Clint Dempsey, Carlos Bocanegra and Eddie Johnson are included as are Derby’s Benny Feilhaber and Eddie Lewis. West Ham’s Jonathan Spector is in the squad as are Everton’s Tim Howard and Watford’s Jay DeMerit. Former Manchester City and now Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley is also included.
