In the first leg the Italian giants Fiorentina produced a stunning display to earn a solid advantage over the battling Everton.

Fiorentina dominated most of the game and could have scored more goals of the night but found Everton stopper Tim Howard in fine form, denying Christian Vieri twice and a long-range effort from Kuzmanovic.

However they took the lead after seventy minutes when Zdravko Kuzmanovic slotted the ball home from 20 yards. They doubled their lead with nine minutes to go when Riccardo Montolivo rounded off a superb passing move with a great volley.

Although Everton have a lot of work to do in this match to turn the tie around, they will have the home advantage and an early goal could open the game up.

Manager David Moyes is unlikely to opt to use the same 4-5-1 system that he did in Italy, which left striker Yakubu a lonely and isolate figure up front. Instead striker Andrew Johnson, who scored against Sunderland on Saturday is expected to come into the team alongside him.

Everton are currently fourth in the Premier League table and have a good record at Goodison Park this season. The last Uefa Cup tie played at home ended in a 5-1 victory over Norwegian side SK Brann.
