Arsenal were forced to enter this stage of the competition after only securing a third place finish in the league. The summer hasn’t been as productive as many people would have wanted in terms of incoming players, with Samir Nasri arguably being the biggest signing. Nasri joined from Marseille, along with teenage sensation Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City.

The midfield will look very unfamiliar though in this game, with Hleb, Flamini and Gilberto Silva all no longer at the club, Cesc Fabregas may also miss the game after being involved with Spain in Euro 2008.

FC Twente are of course managed by former England coach Steve McClaren, who left his former job in discrace following their failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

They have a few faces in their ranks which may be familiar to fans of the Premiership. Australian midfield player Luke Wilkshire, who made 23 appearances for Middlesbrough wears the number 14 jersey. Defender Slobodan Rajkovic is currently on loan at the club from Chelsea.

Their main goal threat will come from Blaise Kufo, who has finished as the clubs top goal scorer in the last five seasons, scoring 22 times in each of the previous two seasons.

FC Twente have never reached this stage of the Champions League before and have in fact never won a competitive match against Arsenal. They will need to be at their best to cause an upset in this game.
