The reigning European Champions Greece had to qualify for the tournament due to the two countries hosting the competition.
Faced with the task of qualification, lesser teams could have failed to have done what is needed and given up their chance to defend their crown.
Greece though qualified by finishing top of the qualification group C having collected 31 points. Their record read ten wins, one draw and just the one defeat in twelve games. That record allowed them to finish a massive seven points ahead of Turkey.
In team news for Greece, they should be at full strength as they begin their Euro 2008 campaign as Giorgios Karagounis has recovered from a knee problem and Coach Otto Rehhagel has no other injury concerns.
Sweden qualified for the tournament by finishing second in the Group F qualification group. Sweden’s record was good, despite only finishing second.
Their record read eight wins, two draws and two defeats in twelve games, scoring twenty three goals and conceding nine in the process.
In team news Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are expected to start up front for Sweden, although Ibrahimovic (swollen knee) is unlikely to last 90 minutes.
Tobias Linderoth is poised to get a defensive midfield role despite question marks over his fitness.
