Once again Wales manager John Toshack will have to deal with a series of withdrawals from the squad for their latest friendly match.
Since the squad has been announced, their captain Simon Davies, who played a key role in helping Fulham avoid relegation has withdrawn. As have striker Jermaine Easter and midfield player David Vaughan.
Since the weekend Wigan’s David Cotterill, who has impressed on loan at Sheffield United this season has withdrawn from the squad as has Doncaster’s Brian Stock. Brian Stock was scheduled to be missing for the first of two friendly games due to his involvement with Doncaster in the play-offs, but has also picked up a back injury.
In the squad, there are 10 players aged 21 or younger and during the build up to the game Wales legend Dean Saunders insists John Toshack’s Welsh youth policy will pay off, saying “Players retired and Tosh has given 29 players first caps. John has taken criticism but it has been a coaching master class to watch him build a new team.”
Wales face Iceland at the Laugardalsvollur Stadium, Reykjavik before taking on the Netherlands at the Feyenoord Stadium, Rotterdam, on 1 June.
