In their opening match Liverpool came from a goal down in Marseille to win the game 2-1. Cana had given the home side the lead after 23 minutes, but a cracking strike by Gerrard just three minutes later made it 1-1, before he converted a penalty a few minutes later.
Benitez will know that a win will put his side well on the way to qualification for the knock-out stages, but is refusing to take anything for granted in what will be his 250th game in charge of the team.
In team news for Liverpool, midfielders Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun are both fit having recovered from minor injuries giving Rafa Benitez with plenty of midfield options.
In their opening Champions League match PSV were beaten 3-0 by Athletico Madrid. They aren’t in the best of form either, having been booed off the pitch by their own supporters after only managing to beat Volendam 1-0.
PSV managed by former Roda JC and Hamburg boss Huub Stevens have a few familiar faces in their side, with former Liverpool defender Jan Kromkamp, who played 18 games for the club back in 2005/2006 and ex-Manchester City keeper Andreas Isaksson in their squad.
Stevens is known for building disciplined sides who are difficult to beat, he will rely on those with premiership experience and Mexican defender Carlos Salcido, who many are tipping to leave the club.
