On Sunday Liverpool increased their chances for securing a fourth place finish with a win over relegation-battling Bolton.

The Reds took the lead with a bizarre own goal by Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, Ryan Babel drove in a shot after Dirk Kuyt hit the bar and Fabio Aurelio volleyed home a third to secure the points.

That was the first time Liverpool had recorded a win at Bolton since 2002 and may have been a huge phsyoclogical boost to Rafa Benitez’s team, as many expected them to slip up.

West Ham United will be looking for a big improvement after last Saturday’s horror show display at home against Chelsea.

After a quiet start to the game, West Ham found themselves trailing by three goals after only twenty two minutes and could have gone in further behind before half time.
West Ham United boss Alan Curbishley commented: “It’s a really bad day for us and we feel dreadfully disappointed for us and the fans”.

Despite their injury problems this season, the hammers have steadily moved into contention to qualify for the Uefa cup and sit in tenth place in the table.

In the reverse fixture, which was played just over a month ago on January 30th, West Ham beat Liverpool 1-0 with an injury time penalty winner scored by Mark Noble.
