On Saturday Liverpool recorded a 1-0 victory against their local rivals Tranmere Rovers thanks to a magical goal from Israeli midfield player Yossi Benayoun. On the verge of half time Benayoun dribbled superbly past the Tranmere defence before placing a superb strike high into the corner of the net.

Rafa Benitez will have a lot to have been pleased about from the performance, despite not adding to the amount of goals scored in a game which they dominated. New signings Diego Cavalieri and Philipp Degen also made their debuts for the Reds in the second half of the game and played well.

Udinese’s Andrea Dossena may make an apperance against Luzern, but there will be no Peter Crouch who has departed for Portsmouth, or Danny Guthrie, who has joined Newcastle.

Luzern are hardly a force to be reckoned with in Europe, or their native Switzerland. They have only ever won the top league on one occasion - back in 1989. They have competed in the top league for five seasons, after being relegated in 2002.
