Last weekend Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. After a good start to the game, United found themselves 2-0 down following two clinical strikes by Nasri. With the chance to salvage anything from the game all but gone, Rafael pulled one back with a spectacular left-foot volley from the edge of the box.

In midweek, a Carlos Tevez penalty was enough to defeat QPR 1-0 in the league cup. The penalty was awarded after substitute Danny Welbeck had been fouled by Peter Ramage, Tevez coolly converted the penalty.

Last weekend Stoke extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to three games as they frustrated Wigan to secure a goalless draw.

For much of the game Stoke found themselves pinned in their own half, but they kept their shape and managed to hold firm to collect what could prove to be a vital point.

In team news for Stoke City, manager Tony Pulis is hoping striker Mamady Sidibe will be fit in time for the game, after he suffered an injury against Wigan last week.

Stoke have had a good start to life in the Premiership and a currently twelfth in the table, having collected fourteen points fo far.

There was no corresponding fixture last season, with this being the first time they have met in the league since April 1985. In that game both Mark Hughes and Jesper Olsen bagged two goals and Norman Whiteside scored another in a 5-1 victory.
