Can Championship side Cardiff City upset the odds and record a victory over Premier League club Middlesbrough?

In the last round Paddy Kenny’s own goal six minutes from the end of extra time sank Sheffield United to gift Middlesbrough a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Blades’ keeper could only turn Mido’s shot over the line after his effort had rebounded off an upright.

Following the victory, Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has hailed the character of his squad saying “It’s not always about the flair or the quality, it’s about sheer guts. We walk through the bombs and keep on marching on.”

In team news for Boro, Tony McMahon and Mohamed Shawky are unlikely to take part in the game, but Brazilian striker Afonso Alves should bit fit to partner Mido in attack.

Cardiff City eased past fellow Championship rivals Wolves in the last round with a superb 2-0 victory. In that game Cardiff found themselves 2-0 up within the first eleven minutes with goals from Peter Whittingham and a superb strike by Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink.

In the fourth round they over came a tricky away tie at Hereford thanks to goals from Kevin McNaughton and striker Steve Thompson in a 2-1 victory.

The Bluebirds’ recent form hasn’t been great with the side loosing their last three league matches and failing to score in all three. They are fourteenth in the Championship, 10 points away from the play offs and nine points away from the relegation zone.

In team news for Cardiff City, left sided winger Joe Ledley will not be available for selection, but winger Trevor Sinclair and battling midfield player Riccy Scimeca are pushing for a place in the starting line up.
