The Netherlands will be looking to earn a positive result as they continue their build up to Euro 2008, in which they will feature in the dreaded group “of death”. The Euro 2004 semi-finalists are known in the football world as under achievers, despite having many talented players which would be the envy of many sides, but have rarely being able to bring success at major tournaments.

The Netherlands are unbeaten in three matches this year, including a 4-3 victory against Euro 2008 co-hosts Austria,a game which saw them come from 3-0 behind!

In team news for the Netherlands, manager Marco Van Basten has told the press that he wont risk striker Robin Van Persie before the Euro 2008 tournament begins. Van Persie, who is now 24 years old is seen as one of the players capable of winning the tournament for the Netherlands, but he has struggled with injuries for the past two seasons.

During the week, a memorable goal by rookie Manchester City striker Ched Evans with his first touch in international football was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Wales over Iceland.

Evans’ moment of magic was a deft back heel flick on the stroke of half-time, which lit up an otherwise average and forgettable friendly.

That 1-0 victory meant that Wales earned their fourth successive clean sheet in a third straight win. A remarkable turn around in results compared to when manager John Toshack first took charge of the side.
