Last season Odense finished in 4th having collected 52 points, they finished behind the likes of FC Midtjylland & F.C. Copenhagen. They were in fact a massive nineteen points behind Danish Superliga winners AaB.

Odense does have a bit of pedigree about them, having won the Danish championship on three occasions and the Danish Cup trophies five times in their history
They have a few players that you may be familair with, the first is former Aston Villa player Eric Djemba-Djemba. Eric Djemba-Djemba joined Villa in 2005, having failed to impress at Manchester United. He didn’t have much more success at Aston Villa either, only playing eleven games for the club in two seasons and being loaned out to Burnley.

Thomas Helveg is also a name you will be familiar with. Helveg has enjoyed a glittering career despite struggling with injuries throughout it. He has spent a lot of time in Italy, playing for both Milan clubs, AC and Inter. He also played in the Premiership for Norwich City, back in the 2004-2005 season!

Aston Villa’s summer has all been about potential transfers so far. The biggest story in the press has concerned whether or not captain Gareth Barry will leave the club to join Liverpool. At the moment the hefty price tag of eighteen million pounds looks to be putting an end to that.

Martin O’Neil has been able to bring in a midfield player, that being former England under 21 international Steve Sidwell. Sidwell joined the club from Chelsea for five million pounds after struggling to command a first team place. Before he joined Chelsea, he enjoyed a superb spell at Reading and will be looking to recapture that form that made him a much wanted player.
