Scotland face Argentina At Hampden Park
All of the build up to the game has been centered around the new Argentinian coach, none other than the legndary Diego Maradona.
It won’t only be the Argentines who will want to see Maradona - he’s pretty popular in Scotland as well following his infamous “hand of god” goal against England in 1986.
Scotland will want to improve on their performance which saw them grind out a disappointing 0-0 draw, with Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo, who missed a glorious chance to win the game, looking to put it behind him.
In squad news for Scotland, captain Barry Ferguson and Alan Hutton have been restored to George Burley’s 26-man squad.
Ferguson returns after a four-month ankle injury, while Hutton comes back after being sidelined with a foot fracture since pre-season.
Cardiff’s Ross McCormack has also been re-called after scoring over ten goals so far this season, and Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is also in the squad.
However there is no place for Rangers defender David Weir or Birmingham City striker Garry O’Connor.
In squad news for Argentina, Lionel Messi is the most notable absentee as Maradona was unable to persuade Barcelona to release the player.
That wont leave the Argentine short of the firepower though with Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Lisandro Lopez expected to play in the game.
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano will skipper the side, which is likely to start in a 4-4-2 formation, but may revert to an experimental system using three centre backs in preparation for their qualifying matches.
Argentina are currently third in their qualifying group for the 2010 World Cup, but have managed to win just once in their last seven games.
