Scotland face Croatia at Hampden Park in George Burley’s first game in charge of the side.

Scotland manager George Burley has stated that he believes that his squad is big enough despite seven players withdrawing from this game.

The Ibrox quartet of Barry Ferguson, Lee McCulloch, Allan McGregor and Christian Dailly all pulled out of the game for various reasons, with Celtic’s Barry Robson and Derby County’s Stephen Pearson also doing the same. Striker James McFadden, who scored the goal in the historical victory in France last September misses the game through injury, but Cardiff midfield man Gavin Rae has been added to the squad.

David Weir has been left out because of his club’s busy domestic schedule, at thirty seven years of age, it was decided that he should be omitted from the squad, but the door remains open for him for future matches.

Celtic’s Stephen McManus will captain the side in Barry Ferguson’s absence, Hearts defender Christophe Berra and Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher are being tipped to start the game.

Croatia manager Slaven Bilic says he is relishing the prospect of playing Scotland at Hampden.

“We’re really looking forward to the game on Wednesday. We are very pleased to be here as Scotland is a great football nation,” said Bilic

These sides met in a world cup qualifying match back in September 2001, ending in a 0-0 draw, which severely damaged Scotland’s chances of qualifying for the 2002 World Cup.
