Switzerland of course qualified for the competition as one of its hosts. Switzerland do not have a great history in the European Championships, having only twice previously qualified since the competition began in 1960.

In the two Euro Championships they have played in, they have failed to win a game and have been knocked out in the first round. That happened in 1996 and 2004.

In team news for Switzerland Tranquillo Barnetta has returned to training after suffering with an ankle problem. However Patrick Mueller, who missed all of last season with knee injuries remains a doubt and is likely to miss this game.

The Czech Republic were impressive in their qualifying campaign, finishing top of Group D two points ahead of the much fancied Germany.

The Czech’s record read nine wins, two draws and one defeat in twelve games scoring twenty seven goals and conceding just five in the process.

In team news for Czech Republic defender Marek Jankulovski has declared himself fit for the after a knee injury.

Captain Tomas Ujfalusi is still struggling as he has a problem with an abdominal muscle, while right-back Zdenek Pospech is out of the game due to a virus.
