Tranmere Rovers have long accepted that they are the “third” team in Mersyside, lagging behind both Everton and Liverpool. Over the years they have forged a reputation as a decent cup side, but have always struggled to find any real consistency over the course of a season.

Last season was again another disappointing affair for manager Ronnie Moore, who could only guide the side into eleventh place in League One.

Tranmere Rovers have been quiet so far in the transfer market, but it is still early days. With no players joining the club, so far the only transfer of note that they have been involved with is Shane Sherriff joining Shrewsbury

Last season Liverpool once again failed to live up to expectations and truly challenge for the Premier League title.

They did however sign Fernando Torres who has proved his ability in the league and on the biggest stages of them all. If Liverpool are to break into the top two, or indeed be contenders for the league crown they will need to find consistency, something which they have been lacking.

In the transfer market they have been linked with the likes of Gareth Barry and Spanish striker David Villa. There will be no place in the squad for Peter Crouch, who departed Anfield for Portsmouth on Friday.
