Werder Bremen v Rangers Live

In the first leg Rangers recorded a memorable 2-0 victory at Ibrox to set themselves up nicely for the second leg.

While many Rangers fans will want to remember the game, Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese will want to forget it as soon as possible.

In a costly night for the goalkeeper, his error gave Rangers the lead at the end of the first half when he pushed Daniel Cousin’s 35-yard shot into the net.

Wiese will also think he should have done better with the second goal, he could only parry Cousin’s second half shot into the path of Steven Davis who then placed the ball in the back of the net with ease.

Despite his two errors, Tim Wiese did redeem himself later on in the match with two great saves.

Werder Bremen’s best chance came when Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar gave Markus Rosenberg an opportunity to blast the ball from twenty five yards, but Allan McGregor made a great diving save to deny him a goal.

Rangers manager Walter Smith is likely to employ a similar defensive shape from the first leg as Werder Bremen will be looking to attack. Daniel Cousin is likely to start the game up front on his own, with Christian Dailly and Brahim Hemdani both likely to be given defensive midfield roles in a 4-5-1 formation.

On Saturday VfB Stuttgart beat Werder Bremen 6-3 after Hugo Almeida had given Bremen the lead after only eight minutes. Boenisch and Rosenberg also got on the score sheet.

Werder Bremen are still second in the German Bundesliga, but now trail leaders Bayern Munich by seven points. They are one point ahead of Hamburg and two points ahead of forth placed Bayer Leverkusen.
